Ellagic acid is a polyphenol (a compound found in plant based foods including Kakadu Plums). It is a powerful antioxidant that can neutralise free radicals and has anti-ageing properties.
Ellagic Acid in Kakadu Plums
Kakadu Plums are a great source of ellagic acid. The amount of ellagic acid in Kakadu Plums can vary from tree to tree and with the ripeness of the fruit. The wild harvesters in the Wadeye community where our Kakadu Plums come from know that if you leave the fruit to get over ripe the amount of ellagic acid will be less. So they pick the fruit at the right stage to get the most Vitamin C and ellagic acid. Kakadu plums have higher levels of ellagic acid compared to strawberries and boysenberries which are both considered to be good sources of ellagic acid.
Ellagic Acid and free radicals
